Working with Hospices and Hospitals
In 2018 Reiki Tradition started to work with all leading Hospices and Hospitals in the Oldham and Tameside area with an aim for all Practitioners to reach a National Occupational Standard (NOS). This is becoming a mainstream standard which allows practitioners to work in these demanding professional environments. This work has continued throughout 2019 into 2020 and we are very proud to see our students and practitioners working in these environments.
Our Reiki Lineage
In 2013 Martin published a book ‘Step into Line’ - An insight into a Reiki Lineage. This book explains about our Past Masters, the history of Reiki, when Reiki was introduced into the UK, the traditional and non-traditional Reiki Systems (how these two systems came about) and details of memorabilia from Hawayo Takata.
‘Step into Line’ explains how the West has now developed the Eastern Way of Reiki; how manipulating the system into Western ways created the non-traditional systems and in doing so removed the spiritual essence from Reiki. Manipulating the traditional system in this way was not done for the best interest but sadly, for personal gain.
Martin was privileged to speak to all living Past Masters whilst writing the book. He confirms that after speaking with Janine Sande (6th generation), Judith Tripp Chasin (7th generation), Sarah Hulme(8th generation) and Ethel Kilroy (9th generation) that all teachings, symbols, Attunements and Degrees are taught exactly as they were at the time of the Past Masters.
Here at Reiki Tradition we provide CD’s, DVD’s, manuals and certificates as part of our presentations. Martin’s interests include how Reiki is being taught today, how it was taught at the time the Past Masters taught, including the Reiki Degrees, the Symbols, Attunements and teachings.
A copy of Martin’s book is kept at the British Library for safeguarding the future of the Lineage. We continually preserve the purity of the lineage in all our teaching, Symbols, Attunements, Degrees as given to our students in the traditional Reiki way- just as Dr Mikao Usui intended.

The Integrated Medicine Initiative
We in the UK currently have voluntary self-regulation for complementary therapies i.e. it is not compulsory. It is the Reiki Practitioner who is regulated, not the Reiki itself, i.e.. it is how they work and their interaction with the public.
In February 1996, HRH Prince Charles proposed the Integrated Medicine Initiative to encourage orthodox and complementary healthcare to work together within the NHS for the benefit of the British public. For this to happen, complementary therapies were required to be self-regulated and to develop robust systems to ensure high standards of practice and levels of care, to bring them in line with other healthcare professionals who are also expected to hold nationally recognised qualifications. The regulation of complementary therapies is about ensuring the professionalism and minimum standard of training and knowledge of a Complementary Therapist and therefore ensuring safety and reassurance for members of the public seeking complementary therapies. The General Medical Council (GMC) Guidance confirms that Doctors are able to refer clients to practitioners who are on Accredited Registers. One of the main regulators of complementary therapies in the UK is the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). In order to be eligible to join a regulator such as the CNHC, Reiki students need to complete Reiki training which meets the standards of the new Core Curriculum.
The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee report on Complementary Therapies in 2000 advised that voluntary self-regulation be introduced for Complementary Therapies. As a result of this, 12 different therapy groups were invited by the then Prince of Wales Foundation of Integrated Health (PWFIH), to be involved with the consultation and process towards voluntary self- regulation. This went through a ‘Federal Working Group’ and culminated in the introduction of the CNHC as one regularity body, although others have subsequently been formed.
Please note that you cannot achieve a Reiki Degree over the internet / via an online course. There are a lot of websites offer Reiki Training which specify that you can ‘become a reiki practitioner / healer’. Becoming a Reiki Practitioner requires the student to be initiated by Attunements from a Reiki Master in person. This is an ancient process which is impossible to be done over the internet. Such websites are misleading and are just after your money!
Here at Reiki Tradition we are committed to correctly passing on the Dr Usui System of Healing in its ancient form and teaching the correct Symbols.
